Services

Learn more about our program and how it might be right for you!

Along the Way determined, through relationships within the community, that an area of unmet need for single mothers is childcare during nights and weekends. Those service hours are on Monday - Friday from approximately 3:00pm to 7:00am the following day and 24 hour services on Saturdays & Sundays.

HOW DO I QUALIFY?
You must meet the following requirements to qualify for our program:

  • You must be a single mother (no other adult in the home)
  • You may have up to three children under the age of 13 at home
  • Your annual income must be less then 2x the poverty level based on the number of persons in your home. We follow the 2017 Federal Register Guidelines. For example your annual income must be under:
    • Mother + 3 Children = $49,200 ($24,600 x 2)
    • Mother + 2 Children = $40,840  ($20,420 x 2)
    • Mother + 1 Child = $32,480 ($16,240 x 2)
  • You are employed, going to school, or attending a training during hours of approximately 3:00pm to 7:00am the following day on Monday-Friday and 24 hour services on Saturdays & Sundays.

HOW DO I APPLY?
We have a three-step process:

1. Preliminary Application: Fill out our preliminary application form. Once received, we will review your application and respond within 10 days.
2. Home Visit: If you qualify for services, we will schedule a home visit.
3. Final Application: If you are accepted into the program you will fill out the final application.

20151026_135450.jpg

HOW MUCH WILL I PAY FOR SERVICES?
The cost of our services to you will depend on your income along with the number of children being cared for in your home. We will charge a fee of 4-8% of your monthly income such as:

  • 4% for one child
  • 6% for two children
  • 8% for three children

For example... if you have 3 children in your home, you make $300 a week (including wages and any other income such as alimony, child support, cash assistants etc.) then you will pay $4.80 a day for childcare.
Formula... ($300 x .08% = $24 a week / 5 days = $4.80 a day).

WHAT CAN I EXPECT OF YOUR CHILDCARE SERVICES?
1. Your caregiver will be trained in Pediatric CPR & first aid, and with experience in childcare.
2. Your caregiver will arrive on time, keep a record of your child and your child's activities while you are away, and provide age appropriate assistance with needs, such as homework, feeding, bathing, bedtime routine, etc.

In the state of Pennsylvania, there are an estimated 325,000 single mothers that are solely responsible for providing for their children. Of these single mothers, approximately 40% have an income level below the poverty line. For the last 25 years, families in poverty have spent roughly four times the percentage of their income on childcare as other families (30% vs. 8%). In addition to the economic hardship, trying to find reliable and quality childcare, when working hours outside of a standard day shift, often results in a patched together assortment of childcare arrangements, which are not ideal for the children or the mother.

Along the Way is hoping to changes these statistics. We raised $75,000 in the beginning of 2016, opened our doors in July of 2016, and to date we are currently servicing four single mom and their children with the help of our fantastic caregivers. We recognize that we are not able to do this without your support. THANK YOU to everyone who donated, prayed for us, and for words of wisdom! Moving forward, we need to continue to raise funds in order to keep the program going and to expand our services. Please help make a difference in our community by contributing to the expansion of Along the Way’s services.

As of March 2017, our leadership team evaluated our pilot program - where we did well and where did we came up short - and made plans to move forward. Here are a few of the highlights:

  • Staying the course by providing services to 3-5 clients.
  • Implement educational opportunities on "Getting Ahead" course in partnership with other agencies, a parenting course, and a mentorship program for our clients. Are you interested in being a mentor? Let us know
  • As an organization, build and execute a strong fundraising and marketing plan. We are working with VEC (Volunteer Executive Consultants) a group that offers help for growing non-profits especially as we look to expand our board.
  • We recently hired a part-time development person, Hillary Schultz, to help us focus on grants and fundraising. She has hit the ground running and we could not be more thrilled.
  • Our current financial position will allow us to run the program until December 2017, however, we need to raise $75,000 to keep going through the end of 2018. Partner with us.

We are excited to see where God leads, how He will provide the the funds and the right people to help us Along The Way! We know it will be better then our wildest hopes and dreams. No amount is too small! Partner with us today!

Quilts

For each quilt sold we will give each child we serve his or her very own quilt to help keep them warm and comfortable.

There are two ways you can help with our quilt project.:

[1] Buy one, give one!
When you purchase one of our quilts, a quilt will be given to one of the child we care for, on the day he or she starts our services. These quilts are made with love and care, and thoughtfully prayed over for the child who will receive it, and of course, for you too. The quilt blocks are simple and scrappy, and the bright colors, and funky fabrics cannot help but bring a smile to your face.  Each quilt will provide the children with a warm welcome into the Along the Way family!

[2] Help us make the quilts. We are looking for anyone interested
in donating fabric, making quilt block, sewing blocks and putting

the quilts together. You can help at any step of the way. If your quilt guild, sewing circle, church, or just you want to get started please contact April Matt. She will help to get you set up with all the items and patterns that you need.

Local Group Quilting in Souderton. Our next Quilt Day will be on Wed, Oct 4th from 10am-3pm at the Indian Valley Public Library (100 East Church St, Telford). Join us!

Frequently Asked Questions

Use this page to learn more about our services, cost, childcare givers, and other FAQ about Along The Way. If there is a question you have, and it is not answered here, please contact us.

How do I apply for services?
Application information is available in our services section under How Do I Apply?

How does the program work?
Single mothers who work hours outside of traditional business hours who earn less then 2x the poverty level and have up to three children under the age of 13 are eligible. We will collect information from you and your employer, and with your permission, from your children's school.

How much does it cost?
The cost will depend on your income and the number of children in the home. You will be charged a fee between 4-8% of your monthly income.

How are childcare givers selected?

  • The childcare givers will be required to have criminal background checks and child abuse clearances
  • They will be required to submit application to be determined by our Board of Directors
  • They will have at least 2 years of childcare experience
  • They will be over the age of 18 years old
  • They will give testimony of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

What are night and weekend hours?
Night hours are between 3:00pm and 7:00am (the next day). Weekend hours are Saturday 7:00am-Monday at 7:00am.

Why do we focus on single mothers who need services during those hours?
More than 7% of US households are headed by females with no husband present and one or more children under the age of 18.  In PA, approximately 325,000 single mothers are solely responsible for providing for their children (1) and approximately 40% of single mothers caring for children had an income level below the poverty line (2).  Families in poverty spend roughly 4x the percentage of their income on child care as other families (30% vs 8%) (3).  In addition to the economic hardship, the difficulty of finding reliable and quality child care when working non-standard hours and/or non-day shift jobs often results in a “patched together assortment” of a variety of child care arrangements which is often viewed as less than optimal from the mother’s perspective (4).  In addition to the financial challenges to afford child care, the available options are limited when the mother works between 3:00pm - 7:00am because childcare centers, small family day care home or group day care homes typically provide services between 7:00am - 6:00pm.
