Fun in the Sun with Bubbles

School’s out for summer!

While it’s an exciting time, it can also be stressful to figure out what to do with your kids, especially inexpensively. Something our Executive Director, Kristina, found her kids loved was making giant bubbles!

What you need:

And that’s it! This mix will last a long time, is mixed with dawn dish soap & water and a little goes a long way! Kristina shared, “We were all occupied for hours—myself included!

It was oddly calming. We started by seeing how high in the sky they’d go without popping, then how big we could get them, and perhaps most fun—trying to actually step into a giant bubble as you can see from the pictures! This activity cost under $10 and one container of bubble powder lasted us at least 4 bubbling sessions of multiple hours! We used long wooden s’mores sticks you can buy at the grocery store and some extra craft rope I had laying around the house…we’ve also used a stick from the backyard with some wire attached to make a wand that easier for our littlest buddies.”

This activity is ideal not just for playing in the backyard, but also for all outdoor activities like picnics, beach outings, BBQs, birthday parties, block parties, the park, or playground.

Just a heads up, the wands are NOT included, but based on Kristina’s experience, 2 sticks and a little rope will fix that! Luckily, this mix does work with many wands. This product says to use with tri-string bubble wands, loop wands or sword wands. However, it works best with stick wands, and is also compatible with sliding-loop wands and even with bubble machines.

We shared some other fun, free/inexpensive summer activities for children on our blog a couple weeks ago:

  • Play in a sprinkler

  • Do a craft

  • Have a water balloon/water gun fight

  • Plan a movie marathon

  • Eat popsicles/make ice cream

What are your kiddo’s favorite summer activities?!
